Cork County has confirmed that the Mardyke will play host to the first inter-regional North versus South clash on Sunday June 3.
The club has dispelled any talk that the recent wet weather would mean Cricket Ireland would switch to an alternative venue.
A club spokesperson said: “The Mardyke is in good condition and fit for high quality cricket despite the poor weather in May. Like the vast majority of other grounds throughout the country we have had games cancelled due to the adverse weather conditions but since May 12th there has been four matches played on the square including the Irish Cup match with Derriaghy.
“The low scoring nature of that game was more due to the poor batting effort of the home side rather than the condition of the wicket. There will be a further three matches played on the square prior to the North v South game including a Leinster Senior league fixture on Saturday, 2nd June.
“We can assure the Irish cricketing community that the Mardyke and Cork County will endeavour to provide the best possible conditions both on and off the pitch for both squads and hopefully this will be noted after the game has taken place.”
That’s good news for Munster and Irish cricket fans who have been starved of representative cricket in the past decade.
