Cork County Cricket Club crestCork County captained by Brian Kelleher took on local rivals Cork Harlequins in the U-14 Munster League at the Mardyke last Saturday morning with the home side inflicting a 29 run defeat on the boys from Farmers Cross.

Having elected to bat Cork County finished on 76-5 after their 20 overs with Zack Morgan, younger brother of first team player Brad, top scoring with 25*. In reply, Cork Harlequins never managed to cope with the excellent dual seam attack of the promising Haris Khan (2-19) and Chris Van Heerden (2-10) and were eventually all out for just 47. A notable innings for Cork Harlequins side came from young Diarmuid Carey with 14.

The Cork County side contained two new caps Oscar McCarthy and Alex Dineen, son of former Club Captain Peter Dineen, who both excelled in the field. The home side were expertly commandeered by Brian Kelleher who was heard to say to his teammates during the match “come on lads lets do this for Leo”, in reference the late Munster Cricket Union President Leo Durity.
