Cork County got their Leinster Championship campaign off to a winning start with a hard fought 10 run win over Railway Union at the Mardyke.
Cork batted first, and the top four all got starts in difficult circumstances. Jose George an excellent 57 from 50 balls, Robert Duggan 24 from 43 balls, Cormac Hassett a run a ball 37 and Jeremy Benton 23, Harvey Wotton and Muhammad Zuhair Shah went for 0 and 2. Ritesh Sah made 21 and Aaron Cawley made 21 and 23 at close to a run a ball. Kevin O’Sullivan went for 1 leaving Abdul Jabbar Younus not our 4 and Daniel Kennedy not out 1. Cork made a rain affected 221 for 9 in 39.2 overs.
Andy Jackson 3-26, Shariq Khan 1-24, Glenn Querl 1-33, Eoin Barron 1-44 the wicket takers. There was also 2 run outs. Railway Union needed 191 on D/L. They lost Glen Querl early for 4. Saad Ullah Khan and Hashir Sultan put on 48 before Sultan went for 26.
Saad Ullah Khan scored a run a ball 47. Eoin Barron 7 and Hashir Sultan 17 went quickly. Ali Elahi and Ciaran Divney battled with 29 and 19, but the Cork bowlers were on top. Eoghan Grehan 3, Shariq Kahn 6 and Andy Jackson 4 with Digamber Mishra 4 not out left Railway all out for 180 in 37 overs.
