Cricket Ireland has confirmed The Mardyke, home of Cork County Cricket Club will host the first RSA Inter-Regional one day match on Sunday 3rd June, 12.00pm start.

A meeting was held yesterday with club officers and Cricket Ireland staff, and the match has officially been given the go ahead after some speculation suggested the match may be hosted elsewhere.

Cricket Ireland Performance Director Richard Holdsworth commented: “The club is very pleased to be hosting this fixture and we are confident they can prepare a good pitch and ground for the players and spectators. The weather has not help their preparation in recent weeks, but the long-term forecast is much better now.

“The RSA Inter-Regional one day series is important to the further development of Ireland players and one of our strategic aims is to fill the gap between club cricket and our international teams. We are very pleased that Cork County Cricket Club has supported the hosting of this first match, and we hope it will help promote the game in Munster and complement the good work being undertaken in schools and clubs.

“With two very strong north and south squads, the game is sure to be a very competitive and high level match, and allow the head coach Phil Simmons and national selectors to further look at our talented players ahead of a busy international summer”.

The game will have free admission and all are encouraged to get out and support the return of high-class inter-regional cricket.
