We are saddened to learn of the passing of Paul Ryan (Ryano) on Wednesday. Paul was an active and committed member of Cork County Cricket Club in the late 1980’s/early 90’s. He learned his cricket at Midleton College before going on to play with Bohemians (out of the Mardyke) and subsequently with Cork County.
A hard-hitting middle-order batsman and very effective medium pace bowler Paul always enjoyed the big stage and some of his more memorable performances came in Cup Finals and Irish Senior Cup ties. We were reminded recently of his 6-44 v Ardmore Cricket Club in the 1989 Irish Senior Cup. A talented, committed and competitive player Paul was respected by fellow players and opponents alike. Paul is pictured below (back row far left) in the victorious Cork County following the 1989 Senior Cup Final.
Paul also represented Munster at various times throughout his playing career before going on to finish with Harlequins and Leinster Cricket Club.
